So how do professional artists do it?! I've been working on a big project (big for me, at least) that has yielded some of my strongest sequential pages to date...but I can't show it because it hasn't been published. So how am I supposed to build my portfolio and get new jobs if my best work is G-13 classified?! I guess the one saving grace is that my Hardcase pages have gotten stronger as a result of what I've learned with this other project. Still, it's frustrating. Someday, though...

Return from the Real World
Wow. Not that it matters. Not that anyone is reading this. But I'm back...sorta. Where have I been? "Adulting" I guess is what you kids call it. Working for the man is what they used to say back in my day. Either way, it was a long, prosperous, and enlightening journey into the corporate world.
Since then...
Added a son to #teamsmith
Moved to and from Cedar Rapids
Worked at a lot of hospitals and a couple of hotels
Bought a new car
And motorcycle
Mom moved here...then away
At the end of the day, I'm back to enjoying the blessings God has given me. And the next step is getting back into my first true love...guns. Wait, I mean motorcycl
Con Artist
So I just got back today from Kansas City, where I attended Planet Comicon for the first time behind a table. I've gone to KC Con since I've lived in Nebraska and it gets better every year (so go next year if you haven't already). This year was by far the best as far as attendance--which was fortunate for those of us who bought tables. I learned a lot from my first Con experience and I certainly will be more successful next time but this was a great weekend any way you slice it. Met one of my favorite artist, Joltin' Johnny Lucas (whose work you should check out!). In fact, I'd link to his page if I knew how to do it. Anyway, he was a g
Crunch Time?
How can it possibly be crunch time when I'm no longer in school. Surely because I have no homework due then life is all good and stress-free, right? Wrong! Turns out that time (and stress) management skills you learn in school actually apply to the "real" world. So what's got me in clutch mode right now? Glad you asked.
The plan was to get out of school, get ahead on Hardcase pages, and work part time doing valet until more art jobs came along (hopefully during KC Planet-Con). Instead, I got a big job with a short deadline and a lot of pages right when I got out of school. That, along with Hardcase and the biker project, and being a s
Super Tuesday!!
What a day today was.
1) Peyton Manning will be CUT TOMORROW!!
2) I found my "Weapons of Choice" pencil box. Since moving my studio from the basement to a bedroom (which is now back in the basement) I hadn't seen my group of favorite pencils and pens. My superhard leaded pencils; my favorite colored pencil that I draw with; my "f" pitt pen. All good things. Does wonders for the mojo!
3) The Intuos4 came in this afternoon!! It's a gamechanger IMO. Turns out that maybe PS wasn't the problem with my lineart; part of it was me, but a good bit was definitely my old Graphire4 tablet. This thing has a much better feel and functions so much

define 'published'? cause i mean, if you get all technical i think posting it to the world through the internets counts or something.. in theory.. but i guess if they require published for MONIES..well then..
